More than an engineering organization.
SOLE is a community of Stanford students committed to supporting one another throughout the engineering and science experience. We create spaces where students can ask questions, find mentorship, explore careers, celebrate their culture, and build lasting relationships.
Through academic programs, professional development, outreach, and social events, SOLE works to make the Stanford experience more connected and accessible for our members.

1972
Where it began
SOLE was founded in 1972 as the Stanford Society of Chicano and Latino Engineers and Scientists, known as SSCLES. The organization began with a focus on tutoring and supporting students studying engineering and science.
THEN
A growing community
Over the years, the organization evolved alongside the Stanford community while maintaining its commitment to academic development, professional growth, community, and service.
TODAY
Society of Latine Engineers
Today, SOLE continues that legacy as Stanford's chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), creating opportunities for students through academics, professional development, outreach, and familia.

We connect students with engineers, companies, alumni, and other professionals through technical interview preparation, resume reviews, career conversations, and networking opportunities.

We work to inspire the next generation of engineers by supporting STEM education, mentorship, and opportunities that encourage younger students to explore engineering and science.

OUR SHPE CONNECTION
Part of a larger professional community.
SOLE is Stanford's student chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE). Our chapter combines the resources and opportunities of a national professional organization with the close-knit community of a Stanford student organization.
